We finally have a date set to test our solar ovens! Please mark your calendars for 12:00 on Thursday, December 19th. We will meet as a large group that day to test our solar ovens, and we would like you to join us before heading to off to classroom parties.
In case of rain, clouds, or uncomfortable coldness, I have a backup plan, but I need your help. Do you have a desk lamp (one that points downward) with a 60 watt or higher bulb that you could bring that day to simulate the sun? I have three that I can bring, but we have 14 ovens to test in one hour, so I think we need at least two, preferably four more. If you can help, please let me know in the comments!
After Thanksgiving, we will study bio fuels. For this experiment, we need the following items:
15 1-liter bottles with wide mouth (Gatorade, Powerade, etc.)
15 helium quality latex balloons
1 roll of duct tape
Please let me know in the comments if you can help!
Has your child introduced you to the picnic game yet? Over the past two weeks, I have introduced students to the game. No equipment is required - just two or more players who really, really like to think! The game is similar to Green Glass Doors, except the leader of the game chooses the rule that determines what can go on the picnic. If you haven't played yet, try starting the game at dinner with your family - or in the car. Start by saying, "I'm going on a picnic, and I am going to take _____ (an example of something that complies with the rule inside your head.) It's a blast!
We would like to extend a special Thank You to Scott Shroyer, Sam's dad, for making time to come and speak to our classes earlier this month about renewable energy. Do you have an expertise in or have you had an encounter with energy that you would like to share? We would love to hear from you!
