We are getting into a new GT groove this semester, as we begin investigating careers in science. Ultimately, students will focus on individual careers and even produce science fair projects that relate to their careers, but we are starting SLOWLY. At this point, my goal is for every student to explore a broad range of science careers. Nobody is allowed to say "I know what I'm going to do!" at this point.
This week, I introduced students to Science Buddies - the primary website they will use for their research this semester. We will spend some time exploring the site next week, but I invite you to take a look at it with your child this weekend and throughout the coming weeks. Ideally, parents should be involved in the selection of careers and projects in order to make sure their children make selections that align with family time and budget constraints. You'll understand more what I mean once you have a chance to look around the site. I will make sure to have your input and approval of the project your child chooses.
You can expect to receive an outline of due dates for various elements of our career projects by the end of the month. Until then, just discuss and explore. This should really be a lot of fun!
